Albania of the 1960s, the town of Gjirokastra. Katya, a philology graduate of Moscow State University, marries an Albanian man, a young historian whom he met in Moscow. Soon after she starts a dialog with the dictator Enver Hoxha at an art fair, her husband is arrested under a framed-up accusation.
